Heroes Pilot Review: Part 1

Continuing on with my review of the fall pilots I'm looking forward to, here is my review of Heroes which will air at 9pm eastern on NBC Mondays. The pilot episode will be two hours long so this review will be broken into two parts.

Suresh (left) is a professor in India who gets alerted in one of his classes by a man named Nirad. Suresh dismisses class and knows immediately what it is about. Nirad informs Suresh that his father, a New York City taxicab driver, has been murdered. Surseh is upset but not entirely surprised. Then Suresh and Nirad go to his father's apartment and talk about how Suresh had been receiving letters from his father about someone following him and trying to take his research documents. Suresh says that his father had been following a crazy theory and found Sylar, a "Patient Zero". Nirad tries to convince Suresh that his father was crazy, Suresh isn't so sure. They see a map with various markings all over the world and old newspaper articles strewn about. Nirad wonders what would be so important for his father to die for and vows to find this man named Sylar. Nirad tried to talk Suresh out of this decision, he does not want Suresh to give his life away like his father did. Suresh looks at an old photo of him and his father and knows what he has to do.

Peter is at the bedside of an old man named Charles who is very ill. It is Peter's job to tend to Charles. Peter reads Charles the daily stock prices and Charles give him a hard time but it turns out they have a good relationship and they are just teasing each other. Peter reveals to Charles that he can fly and Charles does not believe him. Just as Peter walks to the window to show Charles his skill, Charles' daughter Stella comes in the room. Peter and Stella have a conversation about Charles who is unconscious. Apparently Peter had been having a dream when he was talking to Charles. Then Peter flirts with Stella and asks her out. Stella declines because she is dating someone.

Niki (right) is a single mother of a 10 year old boy named Micah. She tells him to get ready for school and Micah is excited for the solar eclipse that is set to happen that day. There is a knock at the door and Niki tells Micah to get to the rear of the home. Outside there are two guys wearing leather, not good.

D.L. is a prisoner at the Sing sing prison. A prison guard finds him sleeping on the floor out of his cell in the boiler room. The guard is very upset that D.L. is not where he is supposed to be and orders D.L. to tell him how he got there. D.L. can't answer because he really has not clue how he got there. D.L. is taken to the Warden's office for a little chat.

Peter is visiting his brother Harrison at his campaign headquarters. Harrison is running for public office and is a very uptight man. Peter is trying to describe to Harrison about the dreams he has been having, these dreams about flying. Harrison does not have time for this and tells Peter to go see a doctor for his problems. Just then Harrison gets a phone call about their mother who has been arrested for shoplifting.

Isaac is a drug addict and a painter. Isaac is really disturbed by the fact that he has been painting the future on his canvas. Stella finds Isaac in a frenzy trying to paint a picture of an eclipse. Stella wants him to put the paintings in a show or something. Isaac says that he can only paint when he is high but can't remember doing so. Isaac explains to her that he painted the outcome of a horse race weeks before it took place. Isaac also painted a picture of Stella as she looks today. Stella is trying to convince Isaac to get help for his addiction but he won't listen.

Hiro (left) is a Japanese corporate cubicle worker. Hiro has been staring at a clock for quite sometime when he finally gets the second hand to stops moving and goes back one second. Hiro is triumphant in accomplishing this task and runs down to another cubicle where his friend Ando sits. Hiro tries to explain to Ando what just happened with the clock. Ando is not too impressed with Hiro's story and thinks that Hiro has lost his mind. Hiro tries to explain that he was the one who caused the train to arrive 14 seconds late earlier that day. Suddenly Hiro's boss breaks up the storytelling time, back to work.

Niki is called to the Principal's office at Micah's school. Principal Kearns explains that Micah's test scores came back too low and that he is not upholding the standards of the private school. Niki gets very upset and demands her tuition back. The Principal agrees to refund the unused portion of the tuition but not the $25,000 entrance fee that Niki made to get Micah into the school. As Niki storms out of the room and grabs Micah, she notices something weird about her reflection. Niki sees her reflection move out of the mirror and then smashes the mirror on her way out of the door.

Claire (right) is a Texas high school cheerleader and sits next to another teen named Zach. Zach has been video taping Claire doing all sorts of stunts to hurt herself but nothing is happening as her skin keeps healing right in front of their eyes. Zach is impressed with all the stunts and is glad to be a part of the experiment. Zach is also glad that Claire is talking to her since Zach is a bit of an outsider and Claire is popular. Claire is upset by her special gift because she thinks all the people in school will think she is weird. They notice that on Claire's last stunt she broke her leg very badly and the bone is sticking out of her skin. Claire pops her bone back into place and then takes the video tape from Zach. Claire walks off with only a slight limp.

That is all for part 1, part 2 is posted above this one.
